Services: FAQ

Get the "Specs" on your chosen material

Knowing the specifications for the intended material to be used is absolutely necessary. If available, a web link or a screenshot to the specific page where those specs are listed, on the Manufacturers website for instance, is very helpful. But if that is not available then be sure to know the width of the material, type of material, the length of the rolls as well the pattern repeat if it has one.

Determine the coverage you need

Whether you are decorating a whole house, a hotel, or a statement half bath you are going to need the total area of the wall. For most rooms the height of the ceiling and the total feet around the room is sufficient for determining the amount of paper you will need. In some cases like kitchens and laundry rooms it is also relevant to take note of how many cabinets, multiple doorways, or windows which cancel out some of the product.

Determine the pattern repeat

The number of wallpaper rolls you need for a project depends on the pattern repeat of the particular paper you have chosen. A pattern repeat is the distance between 2 matching design elements on a roll of wallpaper. This distance helps determine how many rolls you will need.
For example, wallpapers with no pattern repeat can be matched along the seam anywhere. With no pattern to match, the second strip can be hung anywhere along the seam. Patterns with a larger repeat will take more paper to match at the seam and will result in more waste at the ceiling and floor.

For Example...

*Say your next project room has 9 foot ceilings and is 6‘ x 8‘ wide rectangle. (6 x 9 x 2) + (8 x 9 x 2)= which totals to a surface area of 252 sq ft.

The material is a wallpaper that's 27 inches wide (2.25ft) and is 27 feet long per roll but has a pattern that's 20 inches wide.

Divide your square surface area by the pattern and your result should be the number of rolls you'll need. Always round up and take note if they are selling in double roll packages. 252sqft / 20inches of pattern width = 12.6 rolls needed. So you should buy 13 rolls (or 7 double rolls) in this case.
